Saving, Budgeting, and Simplifying
Below are a few recent web finds related to personal finance and decluttering that I thought I would share:
Extreme Savers Share Their Secrets – Yahoo! Finance
Extreme Savers describes a number of cost savings measures including saving on retail purchases by getting price adjustments, swapping durable goods, auto savings, phone service and travel.
With the money saved by implementing the practices in the Extreme Savers article you can start Building your First Budget. With a target of less than 60% to committed expenses the savings can go into retirement or savings to ensure future financial success.
Toss Freely-Available Books to Clear Out Bookshelves
As you are getting your finances in order Lifehacker recommends clearing the books you don’t plan to read again out of your bookshelf. I like the approach of clearing out my book shelves as a frequent reader but despise the idea of tossing the books!
Instead of tossing the book consider a link from the Extreme Savers article and using PaperbackSwap to BookCrossing to exchange your books. Alternately I have frequently donated my books to the local library, which offers others the opportunity to share the knowledge. Additionally, if you ever find a need to refer to the text in the future you can visit the library and check it out.
If the book is already in the collection and the library has no interest they will often sell donated books to the public to gain funds to purchase new books.
