Initial Thoughts on Twitter

Over the past couple weeks I have been playing with Twitter and the idea of micro-blogging to keep in touch with my contacts. I have been aware of the technology for quite some time but as I focus more effort on blogging and thinking about the current state of the web, social networking, and semantic technology this has popped back onto my radar. Interestingly this has been a recent topic on a couple of blogs that I frequently follow.

As I was playing around this afternoon I was further encouraged by the idea of starting to tweet when I found that there are some Facebook applications that will change the status based on your tweets. This was appealing since I frequently update my Facebook status and by integrating with Twitter I can update my status in one place—I expect to find a MySpace app that will provide the same functionality or would expect to see on in the near future based on the Open Social standards that are being deployed.

I am still trying to decide the value of Twitter in my set of tools but I have noticed that my network is responsive to my posts, questions, and updates and believe this may be another tool to remain in contact.

So the adventure begins.
